Biography

Doris Maloy currently serves as tax collector for Leon County   and is designated a Certified Florida Collector by the Florida Department of Revenue. She was elected tax collector in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. As tax collector, she has made significant improvements to the office facilities and operations. 

 Mrs. Maloy was born in Leon County and takes pride in the fact that she is a native  Floridian, as well as a native Tallahassean. She attended Leon County public schools and graduated from Amos P. Godby High School in 1973. A summa cum laude graduate of Florida A & M University, she graduated in three years and subsequently enrolled in the graduate program at Florida State University where she earned a Masters of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management.


Mrs. Maloy’s career in public service spans over 31 years.  In 1976, she accepted employment with the Florida Public Service Commission as a rate analyst and auditor. She traveled throughout the state performing rate and financial audits of various private utility companies.  In 1980, she was employed by the Executive Office of Governor Bob Graham as a governmental analyst and was responsible for the budgets of the judicial system.  In 1982, she was employed by the Florida Department of Commerce where she supervised economic development programs for small businesses.  When the department was abolished in 1996, she was selected to serve as contract manager for the state’s public-private economic development organization within the Executive Office of Governor Lawton Chiles.  She also served in this capacity within the Executive Office of Governor Jeb Bush. 

Today, Mrs. Maloy is in her second term as tax collector and is the only female to have served in this capacity in the history of Leon County.  She employs a staff of 85, is responsible for the collection, investment and distribution of nearly $300 million, and oversees six customer service centers.  She pledges to continue to improve services and maintain the highest professional ethics and standards throughout her tenure.  She is an active member of the Florida Tax Collectors Association, Inc. and was elected chair of the association’s education committee during her first term.  Later, she was elected a regional director and currently serves in this capacity.  Also, she is an active member of the National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers and Finance Officers.  

Mrs. Maloy is active in her community and has received many awards and recognitions.  Her participation in local civic and service organizations includes Leadership Tallahassee, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., American Business Women’s Association, ZONTA Club of Tallahassee, and Jack and Jill of America., Inc.  She has formerly served on the boards of the LeMoyne Art Foundation and the Capital Regional Medical Center.   

She is an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as an usher, teaches Sunday school, and regularly attends bible studies. A devoted wife and mother, she cherishes spending time with her husband, Rudy, and their two adult children, Jarrett and Erin.
